Chelmsford Cathedral

Chelmsford Cathedral Flower Guild consists of a group of 45 dedicated flower arrangers, ranging in ability from beginners to experienced flower arrangers.

The Guild was formed in 1970 by Mrs Connop Price, the then provost’s wife and for many years, was made up entirely from members of the Cathedral congregation.   Today however, about a quarter of our members attend other local churches, which adds to the richness of the Guild.

It is Chelmsford Cathedral policy that only Guild members arrange in Chelmsford Cathedral.

 Arranging Styles

Membership of the Guild is open to all.  On joining, new members are put into a smaller group of about 7 arrangers.  This group has a group leader who organises the group and will give advice and support if it is needed.  This means that you are welcome to join us whatever your ability and arranging experience.

When the Guild was formed in 1970, it was decided that it should be self-financing.  To this day, although we do receive some donations towards our costs, on the whole, we raise the money we need to buy flowers ourselves by holding fund raising events.  These can include lunches, quizzes, coffee mornings, workshops and demonstrations. These occasions are open to everyone, not only Guild members.  In fact, we really enjoy sharing these events with people not in the Flower Guild.

Anyone has the opportunity to sponsor a pedestal in the Cathedral.  This is often done to commemorate an event in someone’s life or a special memory.  The cost is £25.00.  If the sponsor so wishes, we put the details in a special book, which is displayed nearby and also put a notice in the weekly newssheet.

If you wish to speak to someone in the Guild about any of the above, please phone Laura Dolton in the Cathedral Office on 01245 294470 who will give you contact details.
